The Garrard Synchro-Lab turntables (SL95B, SL65B, SL55B) are known for their high-quality construction and sound performance, making them popular choices among audiophiles. Here are some pros and cons to consider when deciding whether to purchase one of these turntables:
Pros:1. High-quality build: Garrard turntables are renowned for their robust construction and precision engineering, which contribute to their excellent sound quality.
2. Synchronous motor: The synchronous motor used in these turntables ensures accurate speed and minimal vibration, resulting in a clear and stable sound.
3. Adjustable speed: All three models offer variable speeds (33 1/3, 45, and 78 RPM), providing flexibility for playing a wide range of vinyl records.
4. Tonearm: The S-shaped tonearm on these turntables is designed for accuracy and ease of use, making it easy to set up and maintain.
Cons:1. Price: Garrard turntables tend to be more expensive than some other turntables on the market, which may be a deterrent for some buyers.
2. Setup and maintenance: These turntables require careful setup and regular maintenance to ensure optimal performance, which may be intimidating for some users.
3. Size: The SL95B, SL65B, and SL55B are larger than some other turntables, which may make them difficult to fit in smaller spaces.

Conclusion:The Garrard Synchro-Lab turntables (SL95B, SL65B, SL55B) are excellent choices for audiophiles who prioritize sound quality and are willing to invest in a high-quality turntable. If you are new to vinyl or are looking for a more budget-friendly option with modern features, you may want to consider other turntables on the market.
I don't know how the sides of the motor got rusty but it runs smoothly and quietly. Before I took the motor out, I tested the SL95B with a strobe disk and it ran at the proper speed. The shaft that drives the idler wheel is still on the motor.
