SL-15 Technics Linear Tracking Quartz Lock Drive Turntable - A Symphony of Precision and Sound

The SL-15 Technics Linear Tracking Quartz Lock Drive Turntable is a testament to the brand's unwavering commitment to audio fidelity and innovation. This high-performance turntable, with its sleek and sophisticated design, is a must-have for audiophiles and music enthusiasts who demand nothing but the best.

At the heart of the SL-15 is the Quartz Lock Drive system, a technological marvel that ensures unmatched rotational accuracy. By using a quartz oscillator to control the motor, the SL-15 maintains a consistent speed, eliminating the need for manual speed adjustments. This results in a clean, stable, and incredibly accurate playback of your vinyl records.

The SL-15 also features a straight tonearm with an effective length of 9 inches, built to provide optimal tracking and minimal distortion. The tonearm is equipped with a high-quality cartridge that offers superb tracking accuracy and a wide frequency response, capturing the nuances and subtleties of your vinyl collection with incredible precision.

The SL-15's platter boasts a heavyweight die-cast aluminum construction, ensuring excellent inertia and reduced resonance. The platter is driven by a direct drive motor, known for its quick start-up and stop times, minimizing the potential for speed variation and distortion.

The SL-15's high-quality construction extends to its base, which is made from a special anti-resonance material. This design feature significantly reduces the transfer of unwanted vibrations and noise, further enhancing the turntable's sound quality.

In conclusion, the SL-15 Technics Linear Tracking Quartz Lock Drive Turntable is a masterpiece of audio engineering. With its exceptional rotational accuracy, superb tracking, and minimal distortion, the SL-15 offers a listening experience that is unparalleled in its class. Whether you're a seasoned audiophile or a music enthusiast just starting your vinyl collection, the SL-15 is an investment that will provide years of enjoyment and a deeper connection to your music.

The SL-15 Technics Linear Tracking Quartz Lock Drive Turntable (SL-15) is a high-end audio equipment that offers several advantages for vinyl enthusiasts. Let's examine its pros and cons:

Pros:

1. Linear Tracking: The SL-15 features linear tracking, which means the stylus follows a straight path along the record groove, reducing distortion and improving sound quality.

2. Quartz Lock Drive: This mechanism ensures the rotational speed of the platter remains constant, eliminating speed fluctuations that can affect sound quality.

3. Direct Drive: The direct drive motor is known for its responsiveness and high torque, enabling quick start-up and precise speed control.

4. High Build Quality: Technics is renowned for its durable and reliable build quality, ensuring the SL-15 will provide years of service.

5. Excellent Frequency Response: The SL-15 delivers a wide frequency response range, capturing the full spectrum of sounds from vinyl records.

Cons:

1. High Price: The SL-15 is a premium product and comes with a high price tag, which may be prohibitive for some vinyl enthusiasts.

2. Large Size: The turntable is relatively large, requiring ample space for setup.

3. May be Overkill for Casual Listeners: For those who are not audiophiles or who primarily stream music, the SL-15's high-end features may be unnecessary.

Conclusion:

If you are a serious vinyl enthusiast who values high-quality sound and is willing to invest in a well-built, high-performance turntable, the SL-15 Technics Linear Tracking Quartz Lock Drive Turntable is an excellent choice. Its linear tracking, quartz lock drive, direct drive motor, and high build quality make it a top-tier vinyl player. However, if you are a casual listener or have budget constraints, you may want to consider other, more affordable options that still offer good sound quality.

Details:

Not often, but enough to make it worth mentioning. I kind of hate to sell it, but need space more than cool things won't use at this point. The arm will occasionally stop moving and skip when playing a record. This is a mostly functioning SL-15 from my personal collection of audio gear when I was in the stereo business.

I bought it used 30 years ago, using as my primary Ty for some years, than an occasionally bedroom unit after getting a full manual the main stereo. The platter itself run dead on speed, no issues there. The rubber feet are degrading as do all on Japanese ttys of that era, but it still sits stands just fine. If you want any extra packing double boxing let me know and we'll work something out.

The automatic track selection still works amazingly well. Cosmetically its just OK at best, with scratches on the sides, stands and clear plastic top. It was running as I just described an hour before listed the offer, but its really old and anything could fail at any time.

The front has some ugly patches as you can see in pictures. I'll pack it up carefully and ship ups ground.

The stop works great but play button will only fast scan most of time, light press is intermittent. If you use the i'll toss in for free. Take a good look at the pics, i've tried to make any defect as visible possible. The only other problems are that illumination bulb lights records surface is out.

If you are familiar with the 'table know play and stop buttons have two modes, a light press for slow left right scanning hard fast. It works OK, with a few hitches. It had been in a box for the better part of 20 years or so as I never unboxed after move. The play button has gotten touchy however.

Bottom line is its running but needs some TLC at this point. If you want i'll toss it in for 30 bucks. Sale includes the table, original patch cord and a power which isn't but works fine.

These are all things I found when just played a record on it. It will always play, you just have to give a hard press on the play button. Its a basic 70 dollar grad, I don't remember the model. I know the stands are very rare and desirable on their own, so for opening bid of 225 think its a fair deal.

I don't remember them not being there but who knows at this point. I'm selling it since I don't see myself using anymore, my occasional vinyl desire is being satisfied by other turntable in the living room with a nice tube and pair of vintage rogers speakers. I'm selling it as-is, with no guarantee whatsoever. All the buttons work, including track selectors.

I really don't remember if they were there when got it or somehow caused at a later date. The vinyl bug bit me a couple of years ago, so I dug out Technics and hooked it up in my office for fun it, though rarely used. It scans and finds all the tracks, will play selected ones in order like should.
