Review PROJECT ONE Dr iv Dr-4 Belt Drive Dc Servo Controlled Turntable Pickering

The XV-15 DR-IV DR-4 Belt Drive Servo Controlled Turntable by Pickering is a stunning piece of audio equipment that combines precision, technology, and aesthetics to deliver an unparalleled vinyl listening experience.

The heart of this turntable lies in its high-precision, servo-controlled motor system. The DR-IV DR-4 design ensures ultra-low wow and flutter, maintaining the integrity of your vinyl's sound waves. This motor system is paired with a quiet, smooth-running belt drive mechanism, minimizing any unwanted vibrations or noise that could interfere with your listening enjoyment.

The turntable boasts a heavy, resonance-reducing die-cast aluminum platter, which, combined with the high-mass, resonance-absorbing MDF chassis, provides a stable and vibration-free platform for your vinyl. The platter is driven by a precision-molded, low-mass, polyoxymethylene (POM) belt, ensuring a smooth, consistent rotation.

The XV-15 also features a high-quality, S-shaped tonearm with an effective mass of 12 grams. This tonearm is equipped with a detachable headshell to accommodate a wide range of cartridges. The tonearm is also fitted with a damped, adjustable counterweight and an anti-skate mechanism to ensure accurate tracking and optimal sound reproduction.

The turntable comes with a built-in phono preamp, allowing for easy connection to any audio system. The preamp offers a selectable gain level to accommodate a variety of cartridges and system sensitivities. The turntable also includes a grounding terminal for further noise reduction.

The XV-15 DR-IV DR-4 Belt Drive Servo Controlled Turntable by Pickering is a testament to the fusion of modern technology and classic turntable design. Its precision engineering, high-quality components, and attention to detail make it an excellent choice for both audiophiles and vinyl enthusiasts seeking a faithful and enjoyable listening experience.

The Pickering XV-15 DR-IV DR-4 Belt Drive Servo Controlled Turntable is a high-end audiophile turntable, known for its precision and sound quality. Here are some pros and cons to consider before making a purchase:

Pros:

1. High-precision motor control: The servo control system ensures accurate speed and pitch stability, reducing wow and flutter.

2. Low-vibration design: The belt drive system and heavy platter help reduce vibration, contributing to better sound quality.

3. Quality construction: The turntable features a rigid chassis and a low-resonance plinth, ensuring a stable platform for the tonearm and cartridge.

4. Adjustable speed: The turntable offers three-speed settings (33 1/3, 45, and 78 RPM), making it versatile for a wide range of vinyl records.

5. Upgradable: The Pickering XV-15 is designed with upgradability in mind, allowing you to replace components like the tonearm and cartridge as your needs and preferences evolve.

Cons:

1. High price: The Pickering XV-15 is a premium product, and its high price may be a deterrent for some potential buyers.

2. Complex setup: The turntable requires careful setup and calibration to achieve optimal performance, which may be intimidating for beginners.

3. Large footprint: The turntable is relatively large and heavy, requiring adequate space for setup and handling.

4. No built-in phono preamp: The turntable lacks a built-in phono preamp, which means you'll need an external one to connect it to your audio system.

Conclusion:

If you're an audiophile looking for a high-quality, precision-driven turntable, the Pickering XV-15 DR-IV DR-4 Belt Drive Servo Controlled Turntable is an excellent choice. Its low-vibration design, adjustable speed, and upgradability make it a versatile and long-lasting investment. However, its high price, complex setup, and large footprint may make it less suitable for beginners or those with limited space and budget.

Recommendation:

For audiophiles who prioritize sound quality and precision, the Pickering XV-15 DR-IV DR-4 Belt Drive Servo Controlled Turntable is highly recommended. However, for those who are new to vinyl or have more modest budgets and space constraints, it might be worth considering more affordable and less complex turntable options. Do thorough research and consider your audio preferences and needs before making a decision.
