1. **Quality Build**: The PL-202AZ is a vintage model from Pioneer, a reputable brand known for durability and quality. This turntable is built to last, making it a good investment for audiophiles.
2. **Quartz-Locked Drive**: This feature ensures the platter rotation speed remains constant, reducing speed fluctuations that can affect sound quality.
3. **Direct Drive**: Direct drive systems offer advantages over belt-driven systems, including higher torque, faster start-up, and lower vulnerability to speed changes due to motor belt issues.
4. **Replaceable Cartridge**: The headshell is replaceable, allowing you to upgrade the cartridge as technology advances or your preferences change.
5. **Dust Cover**: The dust cover included helps protect the turntable from dust and debris, maintaining its condition and performance.
Cons:1. **Vintage Model**: While the build quality is generally high, vintage models may require servicing or repairs due to age.
2. **Potential Compatibility Issues**: Ensure the cartridge you plan to use is compatible with the PL-202AZ.
3. **Lack of Modern Features**: Compared to newer models, the PL-202AZ lacks features such as USB output, automatic start/stop, and digital displays.
4. **Price**: Given it's a vintage model, the PL-202AZ may be more expensive than new turntables with similar features.
Conclusion:The PL-202AZ Vintage Technics SL-Q2 Turntable offers a combination of quality build, direct drive, and quartz-locked drive, making it an attractive choice for audiophiles. However, its vintage status means it may require servicing, and it lacks modern features found in newer models. If you're willing to invest in a quality turntable and don't mind its vintage character, the PL-202AZ could be a great addition to your audio setup. If you prefer modern features and a new product warranty, you may want to consider newer models. Regardless of your choice, ensure to thoroughly inspect the turntable before purchasing and budget for any potential servicing needs.
It is in very good condition considering the age-approximately 38 years old. I am unable to perform the phono no speakers or records output so can't guarantee that function although it was all functional when placed into box. Or, push the stop button to trigger same function.
I plugged the unit in to make sure cartridge is functional which it. It has quartz-locked speed control, so the rpm speeds are dead-on and don't drift.
