**Product Review: Pioneer PL-55DX Direct Drive Turntable**
**Pros:**1. **Direct Drive Motor:** The direct drive motor offers high torque, fast speed change, and reduced vibration, ensuring smooth and accurate playback of your vinyl records.
2. **Quality Construction:** Pioneer is known for its high-quality products, and the PL-55DX is no exception. It features a die-cast aluminum platter and a heavy, anti-resonance cabinet for improved sound quality.
3. **Adjustable Damping Control:** The adjustable damping control allows you to fine-tune the turntable's rotational stability, helping to reduce unwanted vibrations and improve sound quality.
4. **Quartz Lock:** The quartz lock ensures precise speed control, maintaining the correct speed regardless of power fluctuations.
5. **Auto-stop Feature:** The auto-stop feature automatically stops the turntable at the end of the record, making it convenient for single-LP playback.
**Cons:**1. **Pricing:** The Pioneer PL-55DX is on the higher end of the price spectrum for turntables, which might be a deterrent for some budget-conscious consumers.
2. **Lack of Built-in Pre-amp:** The turntable does not have a built-in pre-amp, meaning you'll need to have a separate pre-amp or an amplifier with a phono input to connect it to your speakers.
3. **Heavy Weight:** At around 15.5 lbs, the PL-55DX is a relatively heavy turntable, which might make it more difficult to move around or set up.
**Conclusion:**The Pioneer PL-55DX Direct Drive Turntable offers high-quality sound, precise speed control, and a durable construction. However, its high price and lack of built-in pre-amp are potential drawbacks. If you're a serious audiophile looking for a reliable and high-performance turntable, the PL-55DX could be a good investment. If budget is a concern or you don't want to deal with the additional cost and complexity of a separate pre-amp, you may want to consider cheaper or more all-in-one alternatives.
