Details:
The interior of machine is in very nice shape. Also, there is a tan colored fabric covering for the speaker. As can be seen the case of record player is pretty rough, but interior in very good condition for its age and considering exterior's. This is an all original and untouched vintage item.
The side opposite speaker has two brass hinges which are still solidly attached and work perfectly. The top of lid is plain and covered in a brown leather-like substance. The machine itself weighs in at a solid 15 pounds. There is no damage to the interior lid and graphics are perfect.
The machine can still be safely carried as designed. All are in place and firmly attached with minimal wear. It moves and swings freely.
The top and bottom are covered in a leather grained laminate, while sides light brown, wood colored material. By far the worst is corner to right of carry handle, this areas has separated greatly as can be seen in pictures 4, 5 and 10. The front of machine has two locking clasps which are affixed solidly and work perfectly.
The turntable is covered in a brown fuzz and this too great shape, spins easily. The play needle is present as associated electrical components and connections. The two round switches work as designed. The machine works fine and actually plays records.
The electrical power cord works fine, but plastic insulation is very fragile and really should be replaced. The back cover is made of same leather appearing material as exterior top and bottom. The fabric is in pretty good shape it does have some signs of wear, but not fragile.
This entire artwork is painted in a tan fuzzy feeling material. Long story longer, the exterior needs a lot of care and possible repair if so desired.
The case is made of wood, but entire exterior surface covered in a paper-type laminate. For your consideration is this vintage Alsam products Gay-tone record player from the early 1950's. The joints where wood en parts of machine are attached coming loose. The handle is firmly affixed and made of a dark colored plastic, in great shape.
This manufacturer is rare to come by and model even more difficult find. The side opposite handle has four ball brass knob feet. Prominently displayed on the interior of lid are words Gay-tone along with manufacturers name and location Alsam products co. The needle arm is made of metal and brown in color this item now featured at radio museum items dimensions are about 15 wide, 16 deep tall when closed.
Also there is a smaller tan colored fabric grille, which in better shape than the front speaker cover. The interior is in great display condition as it sits. Chicago ill.
